In this second book of the collection of documents "Chernobyl dossier of the KGB. From Construction to Accident ”published documents covering the period from the early 1970s to November 1986: from the beginning of the construction of the Chernobyl NPP to the commissioning of the Shelter (Sarcophagus) after the Chernobyl disaster.
Documentary publication "Chernobyl KGB dossier. From construction to accident "contains 229 documents, the vast majority of which (190) are published for the first time. Documents are published in the original language in chronological order.
Evidence gathered in the publication shows the course of construction, the investigation of the causes of the accident on April 26, 1986 and the first months of elimination of its consequences through the prism of the activities of the Soviet secret services. As a result, numerous reports of construction deficiencies, possible diversions, reports from agents and information about other possible dangers at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant became a cross-cutting theme of the book.
Among the documents included in the book: reports of accidents that occurred before 1986, a transcript of telephone conversations at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant on the night of the accident on April 26, a copy of the first report of the accident, information about the investigation and construction of the Sarcophagus, etc.
The publication was created by the Sectoral State Archive of the Security Service of Ukraine together with the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine with the assistance of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory on the basis of declassified archival documents of the State Security Committee.
