Something without which it is impossible to imagine us, and even more difficult to understand".<br /><em>Leonid Parfenov</em>'s project "Namedni" is a truly unique phenomenon. From small articles devoted to the most significant, interesting and vivid events of this or that year, the author manages to collect a large-scale picture of Soviet and post-Soviet history in all its diversity, sometimes cruel and ruthless, sometimes funny and touching. Genius discoveries and shameful decisions, great victories and deafening defeats, politics and economics, literature and sports, science and fashion - everything here is woven together and forms a complex pattern in which, for example, the assassination of Kirov becomes as much a sign of the times as the publication in the same year of the novel "How the Steel Was Tempered", the release of the movie "Chapaev" or the triumphant entry into the home closet of every urban fashionista a new outlandish headdress - beret. Brilliant illustrations, rare photographs, archival materials, but the main thing is, of course, the very "Parfenovsky" intonation, which makes, reading, literally swallow year after year.</p>

<p>"Beware of Modern!" - is a humorous television series starring Sergei Rost and Dmitry Nagiyev in the lead roles. It was broadcast on Channel Six and STS from 1996 to 1998. The directors and authors of the idea were Andrei Balashov and Anna Parmas, former employees of Radio Modern, and Dmitry Nagiyev also lists himself as the author of the idea.</p>

"Ostorozhno, modern!" Humorous Television Series, 1996-1998

<p>Fitil [The Fuse] is a satirical feature film magazine produced by various art film studios of the USSR and CIS in 1962-2003, and a satirical TV program of the same name produced on behalf of the Rossiya TV channel in 2004-2008, which also featured stories from various Russian film studios, television associations and foundations and the Irreal-film studio of the Republic of Belarus. A total of 420 issues (1962-2003) appeared during the 46 years of the newsreel's existence. 187 new "digest" issues (2004-2008) were shown in TV format. 6 issues "Made in Fitil" (1973-1990), the movie "Big Wick" (1963), and the documentary "Little Comedies of Big Wick" (1998).</p>

The name&nbsp;</span><em style="font-family: Merriweather, serif; font-size: 16px;">Fontes</em><span style="font-family: Merriweather, serif; font-size: 16px;"> refers to the Latin word for &ldquo;sources,&rdquo; as our project aims to connect students, researchers, and the public with freely available primary resources for researching Ukraine&rsquo;s past, from the prehistoric era through the twenty-first century.</span></header></blockquote>

<p>This project was born out of the need to promote digital access to sources on Ukrainian history. This was inspired by limitations to traditional archival access due to the Covid-19 pandemic and Russia&rsquo;s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The format was based on the&nbsp;<a title="" href="https://daviscenter.fas.harvard.edu/insights/introducing-digital-handbook-research-soviet-history" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Digital Handbook for Research on Soviet History</a>&nbsp;by the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies.</p>
<p>Our project compiles different websites that host online, open-access primary sources on Ukraine&rsquo;s history. Each website includes online collections that can be accessed digitally from anywhere in the world. They are all open-access, meaning that any internet user can access sources without a university or institutional affiliation. Each included collection features primary sources, including archival documents, books, periodicals, photographs, films, and more, for use in original research. Users can browse collections by a variety of tags, including major category, region, era, source format, keywords, and language. We feature websites with primary sources in a variety of languages, including English.</p>
<p>Students, researchers, and curious members of the public can locate sources from the entire swath of Ukrainian history, from ancient Scythians to Kyivan Rus&rsquo;, from the Cossack Hetmanate to the Soviet period and the twenty-first century revolutions and wars.</p>
<p>We are actively looking for additional resources to add to our collection. The materials placed in this volume contain almost unknown today, in most cases unique documents about the most important political events of the end of February-March 1917. - about the formation and the beginning of the Council, the relationship between the Council and the Provisional Government, the position of the Bolshevik, Social Revolutionary and Menshevik parties. The book is intended for historians and for all those interested in this most difficult period of our history.</p>

Petrograd Soviet of Workers' and Soldiers' Deputies in 1917. In 4 vol.

<p>The magazine-newspaper "Altai Peasant" was published from 1912 to 1918. The editor was M. O. Kurskiy, the first head of the Barnaul People's House, an active member of the Society for Primary Education and Amateurs of Altai Research. Since 1912 the edition was published by the local union of credit and savings and loan associations, and since 1917 by the cooperative union of Altai. - By the cooperative union of the Altai region. The main topics of the publications dealt with a wide range of agricultural issues, and articles on social and economic topics were also published.</p>
<p>The collection contains 3 documents, 177 issues of the magazine.</p>
<p>In 1915-1916, about one third of the magazine's content was devoted to World War I, and quite often information was given about assistance to the families of peasants who had gone to the front. Seeds were allocated to these farms. Specially trained students of secondary educational institutions were involved in agricultural work at the so-called "monter courses" - members of student brigades, it was also mentioned about the use of prisoner of war labor during the sowing season of 1916. Due to openly expressed anti-Soviet positions "Altai Peasant" was closed in 1918. All obligations to its subscribers were assumed by the journal "Siberian Dawn", an attempt to publish which was made by the Cultural and Educational Union.</p>

Collection of Soviet and Russian Military Art Images

<p>Eralash is a cult Soviet and Russian children's humor film magazine. Its creators were director Boris Yuryevich Grachevsky and playwright Alexander Grigorievich Khmelik. Filming of the newsreel began in 1974, and continues to this day. Initially, the newsreel was shown in cinemas before the session, then it moved to television - it was broadcast on the Second Program of the Central Television, TV-6, "First Channel", STS, "Carousel" and TVC. The very first stories, special issues of the newsreel and anniversary television concerts are (or were) considered lost.&nbsp;</p>

<p>On our website, in order to popularize Ukrainian music, we are creating a catalog of Ukrainian song lyrics. This catalog includes lyrics to both folk songs and songs by contemporary Ukrainian artists. The idea to create this project arose in 2003, when we ourselves faced the problem of the lack of such a collection of Ukrainian song lyrics. At the moment, on our site you can view 29126 lyrics, as well as information about 865 contemporary artists and 1013 albums.</p>
<p>The MP3 section also contains 1067 music files by various artists. All music is posted with the permission of the authors and is free for download.</p>

<p class="seamTextPara">The Video Appeals to the President of Russia Web Archive preserves online videos created as direct appeals to Vladimir Putin by various groups and individuals in the Russian Federation and a number of other countries. The videos contain requests for the president&rsquo;s direct involvement in resolving local and national social, economic, legal and environmental problems, assessment of Putin&rsquo;s leadership, advice to him, and birthday wishes. The archive covers a variety of topics, such as politics, housing, legal battles, local administration, medical care, cultural institutions, labor disputes, economic conditions, alcoholism, animal cruelty, etc. The appeals are recorded by people of all ages and all social, ethnic and professional groups. Collectively these videos present a strikingly candid narrative of everyday life in Russia under V.V. Putin. The web archive is an initiative developed by librarians at Harvard University and Princeton University, under the auspices of the Ivy Plus Libraries Confederation.</p>

Deportations of the Kalmyks and Peoples of the North Caucasus Official Documents, 1943-1944

<p>During the 1950s researchers at The Wiener Holocaust Library gathered over 1,000 accounts from eyewitnesses to Nazi persecution and genocide.</p>
<p>These accounts cover a wide range of subjects, with material touching on almost every aspect of the Holocaust.</p>
<p>The early accounts were mostly written in German, often by interviewers who spoke directly to the eyewitnesses. The process would begin with listening to an individual&rsquo;s story, taking notes, compiling a summary, and finally asking the interviewee to check and approve the resulting document.</p>
<p>The project was led by the Wiener Library&rsquo;s Head of Research&nbsp;Eva Reichmann. Between 1954 and 1960 she led an international search for witnesses and documentary evidence, creating a collection of unparalleled depth.</p>
<p><strong>These documents are now available here, for the first time in English</strong>.</p>

It contains 121,240 articles, 7,800 images, and 235 maps. It was published in the&nbsp;Russian Empire&nbsp;in 1890&ndash;1907, as a joint venture of&nbsp;Leipzig&nbsp;and&nbsp;St Petersburg&nbsp;publishers. The articles were written by the prominent Russian scholars of the period, such as&nbsp;<a title="Dmitri Mendeleev" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dmitri_Mendeleev">Dmitri Mendeleev</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a title="Vladimir Solovyov (philosopher)" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Solovyov_(philosopher)">Vladimir Solovyov</a>. Reprints have appeared following the&nbsp;dissolution of the Soviet Union.</p>
<p class="info">The Encyclopedic Dictionary by F.A. Brockhaus and I.A. Efron is rightly considered one of the best Russian-language encyclopedias, which has retained its reference and scientific value for us. <p>American photojournalist Peter Turnley is famous for his documentary photographs taken in different parts of the world. During his professional career he visited 90 countries, where he was primarily interested in the lives of ordinary citizens, not in the famous sights.</p>
<p>The professionalism of the photographer is evidenced by the fact that his pictures 43 times decorated the cover of the famous Newsweek magazine, News in the World reports</p>
<p>Peter Turnley repeatedly visited the USSR in the last years of the existence of this superpower. We bring to your attention 25 of his photos, which captured the life of Soviet citizens at the turn of the 80-90s.</p>

The Last Years of the USSR Through the Eyes of Peter Turnley, an American photographer

<p>Mikhail Smodor moved to Galich in 1907, opened a photo studio. In 1935 he was arrested and sent to the Gulag for the construction of the Moscow-Volga Canal. In July 1937 he was released early. Died in Galich in 1944.</p>
<p>Smodor's photo archive was collected by Nikolai Sotnikov, a restorer of the Galich Local History Museum. He preserved Smodor's glasses, which were deteriorating in the museum's storerooms due to the impossibility to create conditions for their storage. Attempts to print the photos with modern chemicals did not give the necessary quality. Finally a scanner was found, which allowed Nikolay Sotnikov and Anna Trashchilova to digitize the archive with the permission of the museum.</p>
<p>The following selection of photos is devoted to the formation of Soviet power in the localities. The history of Galich is typical of many Russian cities of the early 20th century.</p>

The association's mission is to preserve and promote these archives, and it has taken over from Zoobabel and the pioneering work of Claude Thi&eacute;baut, who in the mid-70s set about safeguarding and discovering all kinds of film reels amassed by the P.C.F..</p>
<p>The Fund<br /> Since 1928, the French Communist Party has produced, distributed and collected a large number of films. This approach met a variety of needs: support for major social movements, propaganda/communication of the Party's theories and orientations to militants and sympathizers, cultural work...</p>
<p>The oldest document, the F&ecirc;te de Garches, dates from 1928. The most recent date from today. Nearly 1,200 titles are preserved and promoted by Cin&eacute;-Archives.<br />This cinematographic heritage offers a kind of "journey through time" through the communist prism: the Popular Front, the Spanish Civil War, the Liberation and reconstruction of France in the aftermath of the Second World War, the Cold War, May 68, Municipal Communism, the Vietnam War and the Common Program are all evoked in images. As well as providing an insight into the major political, economic and social events of the 20th century, the films also bear invaluable witness to the "counter-culture" encouraged by the P.C.F. since the inter-war years.</p>
<p>[...] Cin&eacute;-Archives also holds some 200 films distributed in France since the post-war period, which are available for consultation. These are mainly foreign films produced by the former Eastern Bloc countries, and which were long distributed in France by companies close to the P.C.F..</p>

Twenty years later, Evreinov, who had left Russia in 1924, was in exile in Paris when Stalin staged three elaborate political show trials in Moscow. Evreinov then meticulously read the transcripts of the trials in the Russian-language press, collected material on Nikolai Bukharin and the other defendants, consulted with experts, and finally wrote a play, his response to the staging of a judicial farce. With this response, he also wanted to rehabilitate his idea of the theatricalization of life. After all, the theatricalization of life does not mean performing false confessions, constructing conspiracies, fabricating facts, or casting hired witnesses. <p>Boris Pilnyak was born in Mozhaisk,&nbsp;Russia, in 1894. He attended school in Nizhny Novgorod and studied in Moscow. While a student he published several short-stories in Russia's literary magazines.</p>
<p>During the&nbsp;First World War&nbsp;Pilnyak visited the&nbsp;Eastern Front&nbsp;on behalf of the&nbsp;Provisional Government. He later recalled: "Here in Kolomna we are having hunger riots. I have been put on the list of counter-revolutionaries by our faddish Bolsheviks, and I greeted the new year in prison. I was arrested, and they even posed the question about me:&nbsp;<em>Should we shoot him?</em>&nbsp;Others they did shoot." After the&nbsp;October Revolution&nbsp;Pilnyak was arrested by Bolshevik soldiers and for a time was in danger of being executed.</p>
<p>Anatoli Lunacharsky, the People's Commissar of Education, provided Pilnyak with government funds to enable him to write full-time. <p class="Body">Between 2003 and 2006, three teams of researchers from the&nbsp;<a class="InTextLinks" href="http://www.memo.ru/eng/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Memorial Society</a>&nbsp;in St Petersburg, Moscow and Perm recovered several hundred family archives (letters, diaries, personal papers, memoirs, photographs and artefacts) that had been concealed by the survivors of the Stalin Terror in secret drawers and under mattresses in private homes across Russia. In each family extensive interviews were carried out with the oldest relatives, who were able to explain the context of these private documents and relate them to the family's history. This represents a unique collection of documents and testimony about private life in the Stalin period, reflecting the interior world of ordinary families and individuals.</p>

The monstrous conspiracy against the revolution discovered by the People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs has riveted the attention of the whole world. But their efforts are doomed to failure, for they 1 can bring nothing in opposition to the truth, in opposition to the facts, but sheer fabrications and vicious, meaningless and bizarre calumnies. The Plot against the Soviet Union and World Peace, Facts and Documents, 1938 (Pamphlet)

<p>Gareth Vaughan Jones (1905&ndash;35) was a journalist, traveller and linguist who met his death in suspicious circumstances at the hands of Chinese &lsquo;bandits&rsquo; in Inner Mongolia in August 1935. He was at one time Foreign Affairs Advisor to David Lloyd George and later went on to report on the Great Depression in America and the rise of Nazism in Germany. In recent years he has become famous for being the first to break the news of the famines that were taking place across the Soviet Union in 1933 and in particular for his witnessing of the Holodomor in Ukraine.</p>

<p>A&nbsp; group of six pocket diaries describe in some detail Jones&rsquo;s visits to the Soviet Union between 1931 and 1933, especially his travels, the people whom he meets and graphic accounts of the severe famine conditions which he encountered. The great Soviet famine accounted for millions of deaths particularly in Kazakhstan and Ukraine, and Gareth Jones was almost alone in reporting on this in British newspapers and journals at the time. Gareth Jones&rsquo;s diaries, perhaps represent the only independent verification of arguably Stalin&rsquo;s greatest atrocity.</p>

<p>With the Russian Revolution of 1917, for the first time in history an entire nation is governed by a communist system. The posters from the first years of this government show revolutionary zeal and optimism of building a new society. Campaigns are waged to eliminate illiteracy and improve health care. Other posters attack the opponents of Lenin's government: a bloody civil war swept the country until 1920. Progressive artists use the poster as a medium to reach a broad public. As far as style is concerned, they do not have to cope with artistic directives yet.</p>
<p>By 1930, Stalin is in full control. Propaganda focuses on political discipline and the Five Year Plans, ambitious programs for the collectivization of agriculture and establishment of heavy industry. The posters give a powerful, dynamic impression, using photomontage, compositions with diagonal lines, and strong contrasts in colours and shapes.</p>
<p>In the 1930s, this Constructivist style falls from grace. Critics claim it is unrealistic, too difficult to comprehend, and too individualistic. Constructivist designers experience great difficulties; only Socialist Realism is approved. Happy, healthy, young workers and determined soldiers are the principal subjects, as well as, of course, the friendly smiling Stalin.</p>

<p>The Near East Foundation&rsquo;s institutional records are housed at the&nbsp;<a href="http://rockarch.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rockefeller Archive Center</a>&nbsp;in Tarrytown, NY. Our collection consists of documents and images from 1915 to the late 1990s. The bulk of our materials relate to NEF&rsquo;s work from the 1940s &ndash; 1980s.</p>
<p>However, there are several boxes of materials&nbsp;from the Near East Relief era. These include photographs, documents, letters, drawings, scrapbooks, and assorted publications. Some of the materials are extremely fragile, and their use is at the discretion of the archivists. The collection has not yet been arranged by date or subject matter.&nbsp;The NEF collection is open to researchers by appointment.</p>
<p>Our records contain very little information on&nbsp;the Armenian, Assyrian, and Anatolian Greek Genocide itself.&nbsp;While that event gave rise to the founding of our organization, Near East Relief&nbsp;focused on rescue, rehabilitation, and development in the aftermath of the Genocide.</p>
<p>We have almost no information on individual children. We do not have lists of names of children that lived&nbsp;in specific orphanages. However, the archives provide an excellent overview of Near East Relief&rsquo;s work and are always of great interest to family historians and researchers.</p>

<p>Paprik@2F<br />Paprik@2F (Portail Archives Politiques Recherches Indexation Komintern et Fonds fran&ccedil;ais) is a set of political archives whose aim is to provide a better understanding of the Communist Party in France (PCF) - but also internationally - between 1917 and 1947.</p>
<p>Based on recognized experience since the opening of the Moscow archives, but also those of the PCF, which have implemented several inventory, indexing and digitization programs.</p>
<p>At the Archives nationales, the Archives d&eacute;partementales de Seine-Saint-Denis and the Universit&eacute; de Bourgogne, this project reinforces fruitful cooperation on a national scale.</p>
<p>The main advantage of this pooling of resources is to make previously dispersed documents accessible by offering a single gateway to information held in different locations.</p>
<p>Paprik@2F also provides the scientific community with long-term access to data.</p>
<p>Funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR) from 2013 to 2016, Paprik@2F has three missions:</p>
<p>- identify and provide an inventory in French of the funds and documents of the Communist International (CI), in particular fund 517/1 on the PCF.<br />- combine the inventory of these "French" CI funds with the inventory of the PCF's surveillance and repression funds, and those of the special section of the Paris Court of Appeal (Z/4 series) held at the National Archives, thanks to a close and fruitful partnership with this institution;<br />- carry out popularization work aimed at the general public, whether teachers or the simply curious, thanks to the dissemination techniques offered by the CNRS Hypotheses.org portal and social networks. A blog was opened in September 2013, on which over 150 articles have been published. Thanks to the efforts of the ANR Paprik@2F team, a vast archive of communism is accessible to the scientific community, in French and in digital format.</p>

<p><br />Project purpose: The purpose of this project is to familiarize the public with a large complex of archival documents of the State Archive of Irkutsk Oblast (SAIO) related to the history of administrative-territorial units.</p>
<p>The presented documents can be used for scientific and educational purposes and will be of interest both to specialists and to all those who are interested in the history of their small homeland.</p>
<p>Project structure: the project is replenishable. Finding information on the history of administrative-territorial division is a long, labor-intensive process - therefore, as new information is found, the corresponding pages of the project will be replenished with new information.</p>
<p>The information presented in the Internet project is placed in alphabetical order by the first letter of the name of the settlement (the names of settlements and their administrative-territorial affiliation are given for 2017).</p>
<p>Sources: GAIO documentary materials (scans of documents, photos), archival references on the history of settlements, prepared by the archive staff. All submitted materials are provided with archival fonts (number of the fund, inventory, case), have a title.</p>

<p>The &ldquo;Grodzka Gate &ndash; NN Theatre&rdquo; Centre is a local government cultural institution based in Lublin. In its activities, the Centre draws on the symbolic and historical significance of its residence, the Grodzka Gate, also known as the Jewish Gate. The Gate used to be a passage from the Christian to the Jewish part of the city, a meeting place of various cultures, traditions and religions.</p>
<p>In 1939 Lublin had nearly 120 thousand citizens, including about 43 thousand Jews. During the Second World War, the Nazis murdered the Jewish inhabitants of Lublin and destroyed the Jewish district. Majdanek, the German Nazi concentration camp located at the outskirts of Lublin, became a grim symbol of that period.</p>
<p>The changes brought about by the fall of communism in Poland in 1989 initiated the process of regaining Memory by the Polish society, and Lublin was among many Polish cities which had to face their forgotten past.</p>

Through thorough scientific and academic documentation, this project aims to protect the monuments of Artsakh, as far as possible, from destruction, transformation, appropriation, and from the direct danger of complete erasure and to transmit them to future generations. As a result of Azerbaijan&rsquo;s attack on September 19, 2023, and the follow-up forced exodus of Armenians from the Artsakh Republic, today, the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the entire territory of the Artsakh Republic is in immediate danger. Thus, the project now includes the complete list of monuments in the Artsakh Republic. The project is funded by the association of two foundations, <a href="https://www.aliph-foundation.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>ALIPH</strong></a> (Alliance international pour la protection du patrimoine dans les zones de conflits) and <a href="https://gulbenkian.pt/armenian-communities/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>Calouste</strong> <strong>Gulbenkian Foundation</strong></a>. Artsakh's Tangible Cultural Heritage

<p><strong>Echo of Moscow</strong> (Russian: <span lang="ru">Эхо Москвы</span>, <small>romanized:&nbsp;</small><span title="Russian-language romanization"><em lang="ru-Latn">Ekho Moskvy</em></span>) was a 24/7 commercial Russian radio station based in Moscow. It broadcast in many Russian cities, some of the former Soviet republics (through partnerships with local radio stations), and via the Internet. From 1996 its editor-in-chief was Alexei Venediktov.</p>
<p>On 1 March 2022, it was taken off the air by Roskomnadzor as a result of its coverage of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. On 3 March, the board of directors voted to close the station down. While the radio programming of Ekho of Moscow ceased to exist, Venediktov and most of the employees began a spin-off YouTube channel, <em>Zhivoi Gvozd'</em> (literally "Live Nail", in Russian a rhyming pun on the common term "Live Guest"), which follows the late station's format and schedule.<sup id="cite_ref-moskvichmag.ru_4-0" class="reference"></sup> In October 2022, Echo resumed online programming from Berlin, Germany via its Echo app. [Wikipedia]</p>

<strong>Meeting Russia</strong> is the premier public diplomacy project for the Russian NGO, Creative Diplomacy. It is a unique public diplomacy program for aspiring leaders. It brings together bright individuals of diverse backgrounds: some are coming from academia, analytical centers, media, and the private sector, whereas others represent governmental institutions of their respective countries. Meeting Russia seeks to facilitate productive dialogue among the new generation of leaders and draw attention to the critical points in Russia's relations with the United States and the European Union. The program was launched five years ago in <strong>2017</strong> with 19 young leaders from 8 countries, and since then, over 80 experts are now members of the Meeting Russia Alumni Family. Traditionally our participants visit a number of government agencies, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Government of Moscow, the State Duma, the Eurasian Economic Commission, and some research organizations, such as the Valdai Club and the Russian International Affairs Council. In December <strong>2020</strong>, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Meeting Russia was held online for the first time. In May <strong>2022</strong>, BRICS countries became a focus of the Meeting Russia program.</div>

Digital Memory Repository. The Archive of Hwedor Vovk, 1847-1918

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The project <strong>&ldquo;Postcards from Ukraine&rdquo;</strong> aims to record and demonstrate the damage caused to the Ukrainian culture by the Russian troops. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Since Russia&rsquo;s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, the Russian troops have been destroying our country&rsquo;s historical, architectural, and archaeological monuments every day. The Russian military are cynically and ruthlessly shelling museums, memorials, university buildings, cinemas, dropping rockets on churches, temples, cathedrals, TV towers, and monuments. Russia is not just destroying Ukrainian cities and villages, but is systematically destroying Ukraine&rsquo;s cultural heritage, which dates back thousands of years.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>80 postcards</strong> from different regions of Ukraine, each of which tells the story of a particular cultural monument and the circumstances under which it was destroyed or damaged. 8 well-known Ukrainian and foreign cultural and public figures voiced the stories of the destroyed monuments, in particular, the British actor <strong>Hugh Bonneville</strong>, the Lithuanian singer <strong>Monika Liu</strong>, the Ukrainian football player <strong>Andriy Yarmolenko</strong>, the Ukrainian band <strong>DakhaBrakha</strong> and others.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>41 foreign media</strong> in 13 countries wrote about the &ldquo;Postcards from Ukraine&rdquo; project. <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Thanks to Ukrainian embassies and partners, more than <strong>40 exhibitions</strong> have been held around the world to draw the attention of the international community to crimes against Ukrainian cultural heritage. Thus, exhibitions were held in Portugal, Great Britain, India, Japan, the Netherlands, Argentina, the USA, France, the United Arab Emirates and other countries. The campaign was joined by Ukrainian institutions and opinion leaders, as well as <strong>73 foreign diplomatic institutions</strong> and the <strong>European Commission</strong>, who posted postcards on their social networks in <strong>24 languages</strong>.</span></p>
<p><a href="https://postmark.ukrposhta.ua/index.php?route=product/product&amp;product_id=2383" target="_blank" rel="noopener">We will not forget! We will not forgive! Bucha. Irpin. Hostomel</a> &ndash; a stamp block issued by Ukrposhta, in partnership with the Ukrainian Institute, as part of the campaign. &ldquo;Postcards from Ukraine&rdquo; became part of it. They show documentary photos of the world&rsquo;s largest transport aircraft <strong>AN-225 &ldquo;Mriya&rdquo;</strong>, a playground in Bucha and the Central House of Culture in Irpin, which were destroyed by the occupiers.</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The project was developed by the Ukrainian Institute with the support of the USAID project and in cooperation with the creative agency Green Penguin Media. We also thank Oleksandr Vynohradov and Yulia Hrubrina for expert consultations on the project.</span></p>

<p>The V. G. Korolenko Kharkiv State Scientific Library is one of the largest holders of documents of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Periodicals, which are unlikely to be available in other major libraries in Ukraine, are particularly valuable. The main task of the library is to provide an opportunity for scholars, local historians and the general public to familiarize themselves with the publications. The magazines of 1910-1930 are diverse in topics and issues, as they reflect the artistic preferences and political views of publishers and authors.</p>
<p>&bull;&bull;&bull;</p>
<p>The Ukrainian segment of the Internet lacks monuments of the national written and book heritage of the first third of the twentieth century, which unwittingly creates false ideas about the secondary importance of Ukrainian culture. The revolutionary events of 1905-1907 and 1917 influenced the further development of society and gave rise to new trends in art and literature. This period is characterized by the emergence of numerous periodicals.</p>
<p>However, the publication of these publications was often unsystematic and random, their sets were few in number, sometimes represented by only one issue. Given the peculiarities of the historical period, these magazines are not available in most libraries in Ukraine. The small number of surviving copies, their poor physical condition due to the quality of printing of the time and historical conditions are the reasons why there is still no full-fledged, multidisciplinary scientific analysis of these journals. Digitization and presentation on the Internet will make it possible to put them into scientific circulation and supplement the source base of scientific research on the history of literary and artistic life in Ukraine.</p>

<p>"Tolstoy's Word" is a digital guide to the writer's legacy, based on the 90-volume collection of Leo Tolstoy's works. The resource allows searching through a huge corpus of Tolstoy's texts using a variety of filters, provides convenient navigation through them, and provides reference and dictionary materials for professionals and a wide audience.</p>
<p>Even 10 years ago, access to Tolstoy's complete works in 90 volumes was only available to rare owners. In 2013, in cooperation with ABBYY, the project "All Tolstoy in one click" was undertaken, which resulted in the translation of the 90-volume collection of Tolstoy's works into electronic form. Since then, all of Tolstoy's texts have been available in various formats at tolstoy.ru.</p>
<p>However, modern digital humanities make it possible to build a multilevel system of interaction with Tolstoy's legacy, to create a kind of database - more precisely, a semantic edition of the writer's collected works.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The resource allows you to check a quote, find out what the author was writing on a particular day, or find a particular word only in Tolstoy's nonfiction works. The resource is equipped with a directory of Tolstoy's works, persons and rare words. In development is an infographic map of Tolstoy's legacy and other visual digital materials.</p>
<p>"Tolstoy's Word" is both the result and the process of preparing a serious academic publication in digital form, future additions of information will not destroy the fabric of the context, and new projects can be created based on the collected data. This digital representation of knowledge leads to a broader audience, building a bridge to the democratization of knowledge.</p>
<p>The results of the project will be transferred to the Institute of Russian Language of the Russian Academy of Sciences for further creation of the Tolstoy Dictionary of Language, and a corpus of files will also be prepared for the creation of the Tolstoy subcorpus in the NKRYA.</p>
<p>The digital partner of the project is the advertising agency Pichesky, which has taken on the visual component of the project, website creation and audience interaction to make Tolstoy's universe as accessible as possible to the widest possible audience and to create a new modern presentation of his legacy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Yahad-In Unum ("Together in One" in Hebrew and Latin) is a French association created to locate the mass grave sites of Jewish and Roma victims murdered by the Nazis in Eastern Europe during the Second World War, primarily the crimes of the Einsatzgruppen committed in Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Moldavia. It was founded in Paris in 2004 by leaders of the Catholic and Jewish communities.</p>
<p>The association is headed by Father Patrick Desbois, a French Catholic priest. During the Second World War, his grandfather was taken prisoner of war and deported to the Rawa Ruska camp; by taking an interest in his story, he discovered the reality of the Holocaust by bullets in Eastern Europe.</p>
<p>The association's work is carried out in two stages: first, research is carried out in World War II archives, in particular Russian archives, then, in a second stage, the team travels to the field to gather testimonies from villagers and locate the mass execution pits.</p>
<p>These investigations led to the location of 1,902 execution sites and the gathering of 4,748 testimonies. The association estimates that there are at least a million victims buried in these pits, and has posted an interactive map of its findings online. (wikipedia)</p>

<p>Opening to the public of the NUMERISLAV portal, dedicated to the scientific archives held by the Institut d'&eacute;tudes slaves de Paris. Professors, researchers, heirs and beneficiaries have donated their personal archives, covering a century of scientific production in several disciplines: history, philology, literature, linguistics, ethnology... These archives form part of a network of production in many countries around the world, with priority given to Central and Eastern European countries.<br />Driven by the joint determination of the Institut d'&eacute;tudes slaves, which owns the archives, and the Eur'Orbem research team, which is responsible for their development and processing, this digital portal is the result of almost ten years' work. It began on the initiative of Pierre Gonneau, then President of the IES, with the digitization of an iconographic collection of almost 400 photographs of Leo Tolstoy and his family and intellectual entourage in Iasna&iuml;a Poliana. It continued with the inventory and digitization of the Andr&eacute; Mazon collection, the jewel in the crown of the collection, which we owe to the generosity of his son, Pierre Mazon, and his granddaughter, Madame Mich&egrave;le Zehnacker. Both collections are now widely available online. The 27 archival fonds that make up the collection today are associated with a vignette illustrating the author or donor, his or her brief biography, a brief description of the contents of the fonds and a search engine designed to facilitate browsing. The holdings will be progressively inventoried and large samples of documents digitized.<br />The portal is available in four languages.</p>

NUMERISLAV Portal - Scientific Archives of Professors and  Researchers of the Institut d'études slaves de Paris

<p>At first glance, German traces in Azerbaijan are difficult to find nowadays. Nevertheless, on closer inspection, there is a remarkable legacy that the first German settlers and later individual immigrants have left behind in the South Caucasus since the beginning of the 19th century.</p>
<p>The first colonists who made their way east from their Swabian homeland at the beginning of the 19th century were primarily farmers and craftsmen. At the invitation of Russian Tsar Alexander I, they first came to the territory of present-day Georgia. After setbacks in settling in the greater Tbilisi area, around 40 families moved on and settled near the town of Elisabethpol (today G&auml;nj&auml; in western Azerbaijan), where the first colony Helenendorf (today G&ouml;yg&ouml;l) was founded in 1818.</p>
<p>The settler families turned their backs on Germany and ventured into the unknown. The second German colony Annenfeld (today Shamkir) was founded about 40 km away from Helenendorf and began to develop just as splendidly as its German sister town. A number of other new settlements and spin-offs followed.</p>
<p>In addition to their belongings, the Germans brought their agricultural and craft skills with them and the new settlements began to grow and flourish economically. The emigrants put a lot of work and skill into their new houses, plots of land and villages, some of which are still well preserved and can be admired today. St. John's Church in Helenendorf (G&ouml;yg&ouml;l) and the Luther Church in Annenfeld (Shamkir), for example, have stood the test of time. The settlers, who belonged exclusively to the Lutheran confession of faith, were characterized by strong religiosity and attached great importance to preserving their customs and traditions.</p>
<p>The Germans were particularly productive in the area of wine growing and wine pressing. The vines and wine from the colonies soon enjoyed great popularity throughout Azerbaijan and were even traded as far away as Moscow and St. Petersburg at the beginning of the 20th century. The wine factory of the Traubenfeld colony (now Tovuz) can still be visited today.</p>
<p>The majority of German settlers welcomed the independence of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic proclaimed on May 28, 1918. The constitution guaranteed the German minority a seat in parliament.</p>
<p>The beginning of the end of everyday German life in Azerbaijan was heralded by the annexation of the republic by Soviet Russia. The self-administration of the colonies was abolished, large enterprises were expropriated and religious freedom was subjected to strong pressure. During the economic liberalization under the "New Economic Policy" in the 1920s, the German community in Azerbaijan experienced a brief moment of economic upswing and prosperity. For example, the wine-growing and trading company "Concordia" achieved a Union-wide reputation and exported wine abroad. The collectivization and repression policies introduced by Moscow at the end of the 1920s put an abrupt end to this.</p>
<p>Following the Wehrmacht's attack on the Soviet Union during the Second World War, all 22,741 remaining descendants of the German settlers were deported to Central Asia due to their ethnicity. Many died in labor camps and special settlements. Very few survivors returned to Azerbaijan after rehabilitation. In 2007, Viktor Klein, the last descendant of the first German colonists, died in the former Helenendorf. His home has been converted into a museum with the support of GIZ since 2014.</p>
<p>In addition to the settlers, other 19th century Germans also had a great interest in Azerbaijan. For example, the Siemens company opened a copper mine in Gadabay and developed it into the largest in the country. The Siemens brothers used the latest technical achievements and most advanced technologies of their time, so that a few years later a second copper plant was opened not far from Gadabay on the Galakent River.</p>
<p>At that time, Siemens was at the forefront of the Azerbaijani mining industry and was able to make a decisive contribution to the local infrastructure and economy. A large number of stone bridges in the hills of western Azerbaijan still bear witness to this chapter of German-Azerbaijani history.</p>
<p>Last but not least, some Germans are also strongly associated with the history and today's cityscape of the Azerbaijani capital. The architect Johann Wilhelm Edel immortalized himself in several dozen residential buildings and structures in Baku, including some of the city's most magnificent, such as the spectacular residential building at 103 Neftchilar Avenue. The architects Adolf Eichler and Nikolaus von der Nonne also had a significant influence on Baku's cityscape with buildings such as the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer (Eichler) and today's National Art Museum of Azerbaijan (v. d. Nonne).</p>
<p><br />Nikolaus von der Nonne was not only an architect but also mayor of the capital and municipal building director from November 1898 to the end of 1901. In this function, he fundamentally changed the cityscape of the inner city. The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, which was demolished by the Soviet government and was the largest Orthodox church in the world at the time after Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Savior, was also designed by the German architect Robert Marfeld.</p>

Selected collections and records from Central State Archive of the Highest Organs of Government and Administration Related to the History of the Jewish Communities of Ukraine

<h3><strong>!!!</strong>&nbsp; &nbsp;In response to the publication of the collection of documents "On the historical unity of Russians and Ukrainians", 15 November 2023, by The Board of Directors of M&eacute;morial France</h3>
<p>The Russian Humanities University (RGGU) has just published a collection of documents entitled "On the Historical Unity of Russians and Ukrainians", under the aegis of the Russian Federation Archives Directorate. The book is a shameless example of the use of historical documents in the service of propaganda.</p>
<p>The title of this 800-page collection is taken from the text published in July 2021 by V. Putin. This text, followed by two others by the President (his "declarations to the citizens of Russia" of February 21 and 24, 2022), opens the collection. Indeed, each chronological section of this collection, which is supposed to explain relations between Russia and Ukraine from the 11th to the end of the 20th century, opens with a quotation, of varying length, from V. Putin's text "On the historical unity of Russians and Ukrainians", which has been elevated to the status of canonical text.</p>
<p>The documents chosen are there only to illustrate and validate the President's words, whether about "Slavic tribes united by the same language (...) and, after the Christianization of Rus, by the same Orthodox faith" or the famine of the early 1930s, "our common tragedy allegedly labelled the genocide of the Ukrainian people". On this last point - a crucial issue in relations between Russians and Ukrainians - the collection offers a handful of biased documents, extracted from the general historical context, reporting a - very relative - reduction in compulsory levies on agricultural products imposed on Ukraine, equally minimal food aid granted to Ukrainian kolkhozes at the peak of the famine, and the active participation of Ukrainian leaders in the starvation of Ukrainian peasants.</p>
<p>This outrageously caricatured vision contravenes all the rules of historical research. The same is true of all the other chapters, whether it's the chapter on economic relations ("Ukraine and Russia developed as a single economic system") which, in a few eclectic documents, isolated from any context, presents the advantages Ukraine derived from its integration into the Soviet economy from 1918 to 1959, or the chapter "On the Creation of an Anti-Russia", based on a number of documents from the secretariat of the Ukrainian Communist Party's Committee on Ideology, condemning the Rukh's "nationalist excesses" or quoting "letters from workers" expressing concern about "separatist tendencies aimed at destroying the USSR" and calling for the defense of "the backbone of every Soviet patriot - Russia".</p>
<p>The fact that a number of our Russian historian colleagues have endorsed this collection testifies to the vassalization of minds in these times of war.</p>
<p>This volume is a parody of the immense work of publishing archival documents accomplished by Russian and Ukrainian historians over the last thirty years, and in particular by Memorial, to fully attest to the historical truth of the mass repressions.</p>

<p>The publication is a chrestomathy of archival documents revealing the main theses of the famous article of V.V. Putin "On the historical unity of Russians and Ukrainians". Putin's famous article "On the historical unity of Russians and Ukrainians". The book includes 242 documents covering the period from the XI century to December 1991. About one third of the documents are published for the first time.</p>
<p>The collection tells about the common historical past of the peoples of the two countries, about the emergence of deep political, economic and cultural ties, about common difficulties and victories, as well as about the divisive moments of joint history, both objective and subjective. A large complex of sources testifies to the role of the Union center in the development of industry in Ukraine - heavy, coal, aviation - in the 1930s and after the Great Patriotic War.</p>
<p>The documents of the early twentieth century, presented in the collection, have not lost their relevance even now. The events described in the documents of more than a century ago are repeated in our time, when the government of modern Ukraine refuses to recognize the realities of the modern world, the choice of the inhabitants of Crimea, Donbass, Novorossia.</p>
<p>The documents show the danger of splitting society along religious lines, reveal the anti-Russian orientation of the uniate-nationalist extremism in Ukraine in the late 1980s, and explicitly state the inadmissibility of using religion for anti-social and nationalist purposes. The structures that operated in the territory of the Ukrainian SSR to destabilize the situation and discredit the leadership of the republic are named, the rise of chauvinism that began in the years of perestroika is noted.</p>
<p>The book is intended for a wide range of researchers, students and teachers of higher educational institutions, as well as all those who are interested in the history of Russia and Ukraine, will serve to popularize historical knowledge.</p>

<p>The museum history goes back to 1932 , when one of the most active initators decided to establish a society and&nbsp; maintain a museum by their own means.On the 6th of October in 1938 the museum's new building was opened during an agricultural exhibition in Tel&scaron;iai. The museumm gradually became one of the centres of Samogitian culture, although until 1939 it had only two employee: the director and a cleaner. Right now there are 41 paid employees. Budgetary resources available in a year - 1,410437,72 litas or 408404,11 euros. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Samogitian museum Alka has one of the most interesting collections of all the museums in Lithuania. There are more than 100,000 objects representing Samogitian culture of Lithuania. This museum represents collection of the heritage of the Samogitian estates, the historical- numismatics section, which holds written and printed documents, photgraphy. Furthermore, archeological findings includes such as stone hatchets, iron spearheads and bronze jewellery of early settlers. Valuable collection includes Samogitian folk sculptures, bas-reliefs, crosses, altars, chapels, iron crosses. Museum is housed in the building specially designed for museum exhibitions. There are 10 different sections, which provides different heritage of Samogitian culture and history in the museum Alka. A large gallery is composed for temporary and travelling exhibits. On the south-western bank of Lake Mastis lies a mini open-air museum of the Samogitian village. In an area of 8,5 ha, household utensils, agricultural implements and pieces of furniture from the end of the 19th-early 20th c. The exposition in the buildings reveals the daily life and environment of peasants of that period.</p>

It has special educational programs for children, students and adults. Alka museum serves students from secondary schools not only in whole Lithuania , but also in 2012 took care of international scout organization. For more than 2000 children were educated in mini open air museum of the Samogitian village. The mission of Samogitian Museum Alka acquires, preserves, exhibits and interprets its collections to educate the public about the arts, history, arecheology, folk art, the heritage of ethnic culture of Samogitian people of Lithuania.</p>

<p>We are delighted to announce that the Khvoshchinskaya Sisters Digital Collection is now freely available to all through the Slavic Reference Service (SRS) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign:</p>
<p>Nadezhda (1821-89), Sofia (1824-65), and Praskovia (1828-1916) Khvoshchinskaya&mdash;the &ldquo;Russian Bront&euml; sisters&rdquo;&mdash; were an important literary force in nineteenth-century Russia, publishing dozens of novels and tales, poetry, translations, and literary criticism in top journals. As we work to restore their legacy, this new website is designed to facilitate future scholarship and teaching of the sisters&rsquo; works. The site contains a database of downloadable PDFs of original texts, filterable by genre, year, author, and publisher. There are currently links to 197 items (and the collection is still growing). The site also contains a chronological bibliography of the sisters&rsquo; works and a list of secondary scholarship on the Khvoshchinskaya sisters.</p>

<p>This book is dedicated to the changeover that took place in the USSR during perestroika (1986-1991). Its aim is to understand how the Soviet system was first shaken, then collapsed, and to observe these processes through the history of "informal" political clubs, important but little-known players in the decomposition.<br />These clubs emerged in 1986-1987 outside the official organizations (Communist Party of the Soviet Union - CPSU -, Komsomol, trade unions, etc.), hence their name "informal" or "autonomous". The movement formed by these organizations is a vague object, difficult to define for three reasons. Firstly, it is polymorphous and shifting. Behind the similarity of forms (clubs) lies in fact a very heterogeneous whole: we find "initiative clubs", "voters' clubs", "Party clubs", but also "popular fronts" and "movements". These organizations do not have the same content, do not use the same forms of mobilization or the same strategies, and evolve very rapidly over time. Secondly, it's a multi-dimensional object. Political clubs are both small and important players. Small in terms of their size and position in the political arena, because they are not born in the center of that arena, but on its margins and "below". Important, because right from the start of perestroika, they were one of the most visible signs of the social changes spurred on by the Communist Party's "reformers"..</p>

Leningrad Branch" in 1987 and is an expanded version of the author's 1980 dissertation for the candidate's degree of Candidate of Historical Sciences in the specialty of "ethnography" "Problems of ethnosociology of a non-ethnic group in a modern city" (on the materials of the study of Tatars in Leningrad". The book became an intellectual event in the social sciences as a valuable study of ethnicity in the Soviet metropolis and served as the basis for the author's active inclusion in politics in the late 1980s as a specialist in ethnic issues. The 1987 edition (1,650 copies) has long been a bibliographic rarity.</p>

<p>The Russian Book Chamber (RKP), the national depository of printed publications and publisher of the Annals of Books, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2017. It is impossible to overestimate the importance of the century-long role of the RKP and the Chronicles for the needs of science, state and public life. As a bibliographic index for all editions in all branches of knowledge and practical activity, coming out in Russia from under the printing press, the Book Chronicle reflects not only the intellectual potential, but also "the spiritual forces of our Motherland", as the first director of the RCP S.A. Vengerov noted in 1917. The scientific and publishing project "The Complete Electronic Collection of the RKP Annals for 1917 - 2017" is designed to recreate their complete set in electronic form, starting with the first issue, and make it available to as many libraries as possible on the Internet.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Memory of Nations is one of Europe's most extensive collections of life stories. It has been publicly accessible since 2008 as a database of testimonies of witnesses of 20th century events who survived the two totalitarian regimes - nazism and communism. The stories illustrate how these regimes impacted individual lives, and allow for uncovering of their substance.</p>
<p>Memory of Nations is accessible to all interested people, both registered and not, for research purposes as a source of recognition of the past and of lessons learned from our history.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>The collection is administered by the charitable association <a href="https://www.postbellum.cz/english/">Post Bellum</a> (meaning 'after the war' in Latin), established in 2001 by journalists and historians who have realized only how important it was to record personal memories of World War II and communism.</p>
<p>Post Bellum administers the collection alongside its partner organizations - Czech Radio and Institute for the Study of Totalitarian Regimes. Post Bellum further collaborates with the Czech Television and a number of other partners from Europe, Russia, the US and elsewhere on the documentation and archiving of oral testimonies.</p>

<p>The archive is accessible to all visitors of the Memory of Nations portal. It contains stories of witnesses based on audio or video recordings of their recollections.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Each story is presented in the form of a brief biography and a longer text which is accessible below the biography under the link to the full story of the witness.</p>
<p>The story further contains selected excerpts from the recording in the form of audio or video clips including their transcripts, pictures and documents, other archive materials and links to related sources, as well as English translations of the short bio, clips and photo captions.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Visitors can search for stories using an alphabetical list or full-text search located in the top right of each page. Individual witnesses are assigned to specific eras, events and thematic categories, which put their respective stories in a context.</p>

<p>E-Archive</p>
<p>Registered users have access to full uncut recordings, minutes and other archive materials stored in the e-archive. Registration is done by filling in the online form and agreeing to the rules of use.</p>
<p>In the vast majority of cases, the full recordings are not transcribed. The recording itself is perceived as the primary historical source for use in further research. In order to navigate easily and swiftly in the recording, each researcher can make use of the minutes provided.</p>

<p>Use of stories</p>
<p>The witnesses whose recollections are publicly available at Memory of Nations have given their written consent with the use of the recordings and pictures or other archive documents for the purposes of non-profit research, education or publication. In some cases, however, their consent may be limited.</p>
<p>If interested in publishing audio, video, texts or pictures from Memory of Nations, it is necessary to check for the project under which the respective testimony was recorded. Post Bellum's most extensive projects (Stories of the 20th Century, Stories of the 20th Century TV) allow for the publication of video, audio and pictures as long as "Memory of Nations" is referred to as a source.</p>
<p>The stories must be published in accordance with ethical journalistic standards including objectivity, accuracy, dilligence and respect for the other person. When using a story, it is forbidden to obscure its key circumstances and it is required to use all accessible methods to find out about and verify the facts of the witnesses life story.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The virtual exhibition was prepared for the 100th anniversary of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. On the threshold of this significant date the State Russian Museum initiated the creation of an international inter-museum virtual exhibition, which was supported by 56 museums of Russia and CIS countries. Within the framework of the virtual exposition one can see more than 1200 works of painting, graphics, sculpture and decorative and applied art from the collections of the Russian Museum, museums of Russia and CIS countries - Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. It was attended by art museums and some local history museums - from Vladivostok and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk in the east to Kaliningrad and Minsk in the west, from Murmansk and Salekhard in the north to Baku, Dushanbe and cities of Kazakhstan in the south. The exhibition continues to grow. On February 9, 2023, the Russian Museum held an online presentation of this large-scale inter-museum project.</p>
